Doma·phile n. 1. A lover of home.  2. Marked by or possessing the desire to pursue the domestic arts.

I am an art librarian and mother of two, who sees this blog as a manifestation of the ways my professional life and personal interests overlap.  Here, I hope to document various domestic pursuits past and present, gather links to random and interesting sources of information, build a working bibliography, and find a community of like-minded folks who will post their projects and ideas, too.  I am interested in the resurgence of the home-related arts and how this contemporary phenomenon fits into a historical context. Living in New York City, I long to keep bees, raise chickens, and grow food within the confines of my apartment building. Still working out the details.

My sensibilities lie somewhere between Amy Sedaris and Shannon Hays, two of my heroines, and I’m pretty sure I’m not alone.

Do you have a recipe for how you make yogurt for the girls? I would like to make my own yogurt and Sara told me you made yogurt weekly.

    Thanks, Donna Younts

    Hi there!
Just stumbled upon your online journal and I love the variety of your articles! In regards to composting, I have lived in rural Ohio and resorted to composting on my own when the apartment complex would not even recycle on the premises! Kudos to you for sticking to your values!
